A beautiful antique, Victorian era mourning Cross pendant.

So much attention to detail the cross is made up from sheaths of wheat with a central wreath featuring tulips.

The cross is relatively large and has a black japanned loop from the top for hanging from your favourite chain or a nice black ribbon necklace.

It is made from bog oak, Bog oak is a dark stained black fossilised wood, in the earlier stages of fossilisation, later becoming jet or coal, it was highly prized for it's rich deep colour and was used to construct the throne of Peter the Great and in the Victorian era it was a popular material for mourning jewellery due to its black hue.

Tulips in antique jewelry often represented a declaration of love and wheat had various meanings from prosperity and fertility to love.
