Antique Victorian Whitby Jet Cross pendant, Mourning

A gorgeous chunky antique Victorian Jet Cross pendant.

It is a shaped Cross made from Whitby Jet and polished to a high shine.

It has a large carved jet bale to the top, looks great hung from a black ribbon or as part of a necklace stack.

It is Unmarked, Victorian era c1870s

Possibly a mourning piece, Whitby Jet rose to popularity as a mourning jewellery following the Queens period of mourning material but this love of jet and dark jewellery continued on past this time.

Condition:
Fair used condition overall, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, some surface wear and there are some tiny chips / nibbles to the edges
